Moving from Panama to Singapore

From Panama to Singapore, hub to hub between two major logistics centers.

Singapore, one of Asia's largest financial and logistics hubs, welcomes professionals and families from around the world. We coordinate moves from Panama to Singapore by sea or air freight, connecting two of the planet's great logistics centers.

Two small countries that live off maritime trade, joined by a surprisingly smooth corridor. Singaporean customs is fast and predictable; it is also literal, and it penalizes what other countries merely advise against.

Hub to hub

Both Panama and Singapore are top-tier logistics nodes, which translates into strong connections. We prepare your household goods with export-grade packing, manage the freight, and coordinate customs clearance and delivery with local agents.

Volume is measured in cubic meters (CBM). In an exclusive container (FCL) your goods travel alone and are sealed at your home; in a shared container (LCL or groupage) they share space with other cargo, are consolidated in a warehouse before sailing, and are deconsolidated in another one on arrival. On this corridor the shared option has good frequencies, thanks to the sheer traffic volume at destination.

Singaporean housing is generally more compact than Panamanian housing, with a lot of built-in storage already in place. Worth bearing in mind when deciding which furniture is worth moving to the other side of the world.

Singapore customs: efficient and literal

Singapore enforces a strict and efficient customs framework. Every cargo entry requires a prior permit, and the used personal property of someone settling in the country receives a treatment different from a commercial import, conditional on the goods having been yours and in your use before the move and on their not being imported for sale.

The file rests on the passport, the employment pass or residence permit covering your stay, a valued and detailed packing list, and the declaration that the goods are for personal use. We confirm the exact requirements and conditions with the destination agent.

What sets Singapore apart is not the paperwork but the rigor with which prohibitions are enforced. There are articles that are perfectly legal in Panama whose mere importation is an offence there: e-cigarettes and all vaping products, commercially sold chewing gum, chewing tobacco, certain publications, and some everyday consumer items. This is not a list to skim.

Living in Singapore

Singapore takes in professionals in banking, technology, logistics, and international trade, and their families. It is an orderly, safe, multicultural city-state, with English as the working language and an international community that makes landing relatively easy.

Delivery at destination is predictable and heavily regulated. Condominiums and residential blocks require a service elevator booking, access permits, and defined time windows, and sometimes a security deposit against damage to common areas. It is coordinated in advance; improvising on delivery day does not work at this destination.

Before you ship: what to settle in Panama

Go through the prohibited-items list before packing, slowly. It is the most important advice for this destination: the risk is not that a box gets held, it is that certain articles are a punishable offence simply by being in the shipment.

Have your employment pass or residence permit resolved. The treatment of personal property rests on it.

Check the voltage. The Singaporean grid runs at 230 volts and 50 hertz, with British-type plugs; Panama's at 110 volts and 60 hertz. Modern electronics usually accepts both ranges — the power supply label says so — but large appliances with a motor or a heating element usually do not.

The car is a separate and particularly difficult case: Singapore regulates vehicle use through a quota system and ownership costs that make importing a car rarely worthwhile. It is assessed before shipping, and the honest recommendation is usually to sell it in Panama. The pet never travels in the container: it leaves with the process handled through MIDA and MINSA and enters with a prior import permit, a microchip, current vaccinations, and a health regime that can include quarantine.
